Hiking is usually regarded as a healthy pastime as it pushes one’s physical limits as well as strengthen their mental fortitude as they scale towards the top. Unfortunately, tragic events can occur along the way.

32yo M’sian man dies while hiking at Bukit Galing
According to a report by NST, the unnamed victim, who was a logistics company worker, was out on a hike with his nephew and three others at Bukit Galing in Kuantan on Sunday (Sept 1) at about 9am.
Kuantan police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the victim’s nephew told police that when the former reached the summit, he complained of breathing difficulties and asked for help from the other hikers.
The victim appeared weak, prompting a hiker to contact for help before firemen reached the site about 1.10pm. The victim was treated with oxygen before being brought down using a stretcher.
“While going down the mountain, the victim complained of chest pain before he fainted. It took about three hours to reach the bottom of the hill as the jungle trail was quite steep,” he said in a statement.
The victim was later pronounced dead by medical personnel and his remains were taken to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.
Heart attack believed to be the cause
Wan Mohd Zahari added that according to family members, the victim was a bachelor who was an avid hiker and had no history of physical ailments.
The case has since been classified as sudden death as the cause of death is believed to be due to a suspected heart attack.
Our condolences to the victim’s family for their loss and we hope they will be able to move on from this tragedy.
