She was found to be suffering from mental health issues.
With the Ghost Month officially in full swing, many are apprehensive to step out of their house unnecessarily in hopes of not bumping into ‘spirits’ and risk offending them.

Unfortunately for those driving in Johor Bahru (JB), they were force to endure three weeks of ‘ghostly’ encounters after a woman took it upon herself to dress up as one and scare the living daylights out of them.

In the first clip, the driver is seen making his way down the road at night when the woman, dressed in a long, black attire suddenly rushes out from the side of the road and lunges towards the car, forcing the driver to swerve to the right to avoid hitting her.

In the second clip, the same woman is seen carrying out a similar modus operandi, where she ran towards the middle of the road and strikes a pose, presumably to scare drivers coming her way.

After three weeks of horror, the woman’s ‘ghostly’ antics were finally brought to an end when police arrested her on Saturday (Aug 17), reported NST.

According to Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, he said the 31-year-old woman, who was homeless, would dress up as a ghost in order to frighten road users.

After scaring them, she would kick the vehicle before faking an injury as a means to demand money from the driver as compensation.

Raub added that police have tried to apprehend the woman for weeks but she often slipped through their fingers.

Found to be suffering from mental health issues

Checks into the woman’s medical records revealed that she was admitted to the yellow zone of Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) in 2022 and 2023 due to accidents and depression.

A background check also found that she had been fined RM1,000 on June 27, 2018 for trespassing under Section 448 of the Penal Code.

Raub said the woman was referred to HSI for further examination and that police are currently waiting for the results.

“We hope that this arrest will alleviate public fear of going out at night and using the road,” he said.
