A leisurely family trip to Port Dickson took a devastating turn when three sisters drowned while swimming at Pantai Cahaya beach yesterday (23 April).
Two others were saved thanks to the efforts of bystanders and local firemen.
High tide and rough waters at the time
The three victims, identified as R. Kalaivani, 30, R. Dawige, 29, and R. Sathiyadevi, 19, hailed from Banting, Selangor.

Their bodies were discovered around 5:57 pm on 23 April, following a distress call made by members of the public.
Azizee Alias, the chief of Telok Kemang Fire and Rescue Department, reported that the bodies were found roughly 50 meters from the shore.

He noted that the sea was particularly rough due to high tide at the time, and that swimming was not advised in the area.
Brothers managed to be saved
The two survivors, R. Veeran, 26, and J. Sathiswaran, 29, were pulled to safety by both onlookers and firemen.
They were then transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The bodies of the deceased sisters were handed over to the police for further investigation.
“It took us an hour to rescue the drowning victim who was 50 meters from the beach. The search task was easy to conduct as the victims were visible on the surface of the beach,” he said when contacted by Kosmo!.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the surviving family members were placed in the care of the Ministry of Health for further assistance.
