Following the disappearance of 6-year-old Leo Jia Hui in Johor Bahru at around 8.30pm last Saturday (Jul 20), police have launched a massive search in hopes of bringing the young girl safely back home.
In the process, they have also arrested three individuals who may provide clues into the ongoing case.
Police arrest 1 man, 2 women over case
According to NST, the suspects were nabbed by police in Iskandar Puteri, Gelang Patah, Johor to assist in the investigation.
In a statement by Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar, he said the suspects were aged between 28 and 55 and that the case was reclassified under 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping or abduction with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person.
If convicted, the suspects face a jail term of up to seven years or a fine.
When asked regarding online speculations that Jia Hui had been found, Kumar declined to comment further, saying that police will hold a press conference at 11am today to provide more details, reported Sin Chew Daily.
He also urged the public not to make speculations that might jeopardise investigations and said those with further information can contact the Johor police hotline at 019-279 2095.
