A man was left feeling furious and demanded for answers after the receipt for an ice cream cake showed his young daughter being called a “future corpse”.
Amid the hurried apology and rife speculations, one theory has emerged that the name was most likely the work of a staff using their membership account to earn points from the transaction.
Furious over ‘bakal jenazah’ label
In a now-viral Threads post, the OP wrote that his wife had pre-ordered an ice cream cake from the shop to celebrate their 2-year-old daughter’s birthday.
But when his wife went to collect the cake, she was shocked to see her daughter’s name being typed out as “bakal jenazah” (future corpse).
Needless to say, this left the OP extremely furious, where he accused the ice cream shop of “wishing his daughter dead” and demanded for a formal explanation.
Whodunit?
Not long after the post went viral, the ice cream shop wrote in the comment section that they were “truly sorry for what happened” and added an internal investigation had been launched.
The shop also informed the OP that they had reached out to them via Instagram, only to be rebuffed by the latter, who said the DM was only parroting what it had written in the comment section.
It didn’t take long for netizens to chime in and offer their take on the incident, with many offering multiple theories on why the ‘bakal jenazah’ name appeared in the first place.
And there seemed to be one theory that appeared to be the most plausible: ‘bakal jenazah’ was the username of the staff who used their membership account to collect points from the transaction for themselves.
This later appeared to be the case when a staff of the ice cream shop confessed in a now-deleted post that he was the person who used his account under the username ‘bakal jenazah’ for the transaction.
The staff also said he had received a warning letter for causing the ruckus and begged for the OP’s forgiveness.
However, the staff’s apology did little to quell public anger, with one sarcastically saying he could have chosen other usernames such as “ice cream points thief”, “mak limah ice cream” or “waka waka ice cream”.
We hope the staff learnt their lesson and if you’re thinking of coming up with an obnoxious username, better think twice!
