28 M’sian Students Suffer Food Poisoning After Eating Tandoori Chicken From School Canteen

All 28 students have been discharged.
In a concerning incident, 28 students from Sekolah Menengah Teknik Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra in Jalan Ibbetson were reported to have suffered from food poisoning.

The unfortunate event unfolded after the students consumed tandoori chicken prepared in the school’s canteen kitchen last Friday (July 12).

The affected students were promptly taken to Penang Hospital (HPP) for treatment.

According to Harian Metro, State Youth, Sports, and Health Committee Chairman, Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, confirmed that all 28 students have been discharged from the hospital as of yesterday (July 16), with only one student being referred to a health clinic for further observation.

“All 28 affected students have been discharged from the hospital, with only one needing further attention at a health clinic. Investigations are still ongoing, and we are in the process of tracing food samples,” said Daniel.

Further commenting on the situation, Daniel reassured that no new cases have been detected so far.

In response to the incident, the school’s kitchen has been sealed off under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 to prevent any further outbreaks.

The health authorities are continuing their investigations to determine the exact cause of the food poisoning and ensure the safety of the school’s food supply.
