A 26-year-old single mother in Malaysia had to make one of the hardest decisions of her life before leaving for Singapore to work.
Kong Xiu Ping (transliteration) from Sekinchan, Selangor, decided to send her 7 year old son, Kong Pei Ming (transliteration), to 安順傑護幼之家 Jaz Home in Teluk Intan, Perak.
The decision was made after much pain and consideration, as Kong hoped her son would be able to grow up in a more stable and structured environment while she worked to provide for their future.
Quiet moment before leaving home

Reported by Sin Chew Daily, before they left for the children’s home, the atmosphere inside their home in Sekinchan was quiet.
No one spoke.
Pei Ming then quietly walked to the table, picked up a cup, poured a glass of plain water, and slowly walked over to his mother while holding it with both hands.
He softly said: “Mummy, drink some water.”
That small gesture broke Kong, who had been trying hard to hold back her tears.
She took the cup from her son and started crying.

Mother and son hugged tightly
Kong then pulled her son tightly into her arms.
Pei Ming also hugged his mother tightly, burying his face in her shoulder and refusing to let go for a long time.
Both mother and son knew that after this hug, they did not know how long it would take before they could hold each other again.
As they prepared to part ways, Kong continued stroking her son while reminding him again and again to study hard and behave well.
“You must study hard.”
“You must listen to others.”
“You must be good.”
“Don’t be naughty.”
Every sentence came with tears.
The more she spoke, the tighter she held him.
Had two marriages and three children
Kong had gone through two marriages.
She gave birth to Pei Ming when she was 18. After separating from her first husband, Pei Ming stayed with her and took her surname.
Due to financial difficulties, Pei Ming had been cared for by his aunt since he was young.
His aunt played a motherly role in his life and helped raise him.
However, as financial pressure increased, the aunt was no longer able to care for him in the long run.
Kong later remarried and had two more children, but her second marriage also ran into problems. She is currently going through divorce proceedings.
Leaving for Singapore to earn a living
To make a living, Kong decided to leave for Singapore to work.
No one truly knows how long she struggled before making the decision.
For a mother, sending her child away was not because she did not want him.
It was because she hoped he could have a better future.
Representatives from 安順傑護幼之家 Jaz Home, including its chairman, general affairs officer, committee member, and supervisor, travelled from Teluk Intan to Sekinchan to bring Pei Ming to the home.
Several political and community representatives from Sekinchan, including local party and association members, were also present to show concern for the mother and son.
Son looked back at his mother before leaving
At the final moment, Pei Ming turned back to look at his mother.
Kong also looked at her son.
Even though both were filled with sadness and reluctance, they still had to wave goodbye.
Pei Ming will now begin a new chapter in Teluk Intan.
His mother, meanwhile, is left with endless longing as she leaves for Singapore to work.
安順傑護幼之家 Jaz Home hopes to give him a better future

Representatives from 安順傑護幼之家 Jaz Home said the home decided to step in after understanding and assessing the family’s situation.
They said the home hopes to provide Pei Ming with a stable, safe, and supportive environment where he can continue studying and growing up.
After his school transfer process is completed, Pei Ming will continue his studies at a school in Teluk Intan.
We cannot change Pei Ming’s past, but we can nurture his future together,” they said.
A local representative also expressed hope that Pei Ming would be able to grow up healthily in an environment filled with love.
