Marriage is often seen as the next big step for couples in a serious relationship, but for one young man, the financial side of it has left him wondering whether he is truly ready.
A 25 year old man recently took to Threads to share his concerns about getting married to his girlfriend, saying he was unsure whether his future income would be enough to support married life.

Estimates RM6,000 take home salary
In his post, the man said he was making a rough estimate of what his salary could look like in the next few years.
Using a net monthly income of RM6,000, he then broke down what he expected his expenses to be after marriage.
According to his calculation, RM2,000 would go towards housing while another RM1,000 would be set aside for his car, including road tax, insurance and servicing costs.
He estimated another RM600 for groceries, kitchen necessities and toiletries, while food for two people would cost around RM1,200.
Water, electricity and WiFi bills were estimated at RM350.
After all these expenses, he calculated that he would only have around RM850 left each month.
Wonders where savings and holidays would fit in
The figure appeared to make him question whether he would have enough room for everything else that comes with adult life.
He pointed out that the remaining RM850 would still need to cover things such as emergency savings, unexpected expenses and leisure activities.
The couple had also been dreaming of going on a holiday after getting married.
He jokingly mentioned their occasional café hunting too, before admitting that marriage seemed to require a lot more money than he initially thought.

Girlfriend has her own income
The man also clarified that his girlfriend would have her own income.
However, he questioned whether he would still be expected to shoulder most of their expenses, referring to the common saying that a wife’s money belongs to her while the husband’s money is used for the household.
With so many costs to consider, his simple monthly budget has left him wondering whether earning RM6,000 would really be enough for him to confidently take the next step into marriage.
