A 2-year-old boy had his foot caught in an escalator at a shopping mall in Alor Setar, leaving his ankle wounded.
The incident occurred around 8.30pm last night (Aug 24) at the mall, with the child crying in pain as a woman, believed to be his mother, comforted him.
The boy was later taken to the hospital for treatment.
Was wearing foam sandals
An eyewitness shared a photo of the accident on Facebook, where it showed blood stains dripping all across the floor.

He noted that the child was wearing a pair of Croc sandals, which may have caused the boy’s foot to get trapped in the escalator.
The mall management and security personnel responded quickly, providing assistance and using a wheelchair to transport the child to the hospital.
The eyewitness also urged parents to be vigilant when using escalators and advised them not to let their children wear sandals or slippers and to either carry younger children or opt for elevators when possible to avoid such accidents.
Lesson learnt
The post has sparked discussion among netizens about the safety of escalators and how children should be supervised when using them.
‘Think it’s because of the shoes, I think it’s because of the rubber, but still need to be careful, especially the small ones (children). If possible, just carry them for a bit while on the escalator.’

‘In the end, you have to carry the child. A lesson for everyone.’
