According to Thai news outlet Phuket News, the altercation took place at Patong Bay Residence Hotel on Aug 15.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Phongpipat Khamchumphu told the news outlet that police were alerted of the fight at 4.45am and rushed to the scene.

When they arrived, they found two Singaporean tourists with blood dripping down their faces and clothes while the hotel security guard, Suphawut Chaladchalam, sat nearby with injuries as well.

The Singaporeans were later identified as 21-year-old Clifton Lau and 22-year-old Nigel Tey.

When questioned by police, Suphawut said Lau and Tey tried to leave the hotel without finishing the “obligatory check-out process to ensure all bills had been settled”.

When he decided to step in and told the duo to go back to the hotel and pay the bill, one of the Singaporean tourists allegedly punched him before smashing a bottle right into his back.

In retaliation, Suphawut threw several punches back at both Lau and Tey, which eventually led to all of them getting injured as a result.
