Last night (Dec 31), Malaysians across the country welcomed the new year and ushered 2024 out by taking part at countdown parties or taking family members out for a meal.
For two teenage boys in Selangor, their plan to treat their mum to a meal of satay was foiled after they were stopped by Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers and found to not have a valid license.

According to Sinar Harian, the teens, aged 16 and 17 respectively, were taking their mum out for a meal on New Year’s Eve after she expressed her desire to have some satay.

Unfortunately, all three of them were intercepted by JPJ officers at a roadblock set up at the Awan Besar Toll Plaza, where the teenage boys were found not to possess a valid motorcycle license.
When questioned by the JPJ officers, the teens’ mother, who was riding pillion on the motorcycle, admitted that she knew her sons didn’t have a license and simply wanted to enjoy some satay.
She also revealed that her sons were unable to obtain a license due to financial constraints.

Upon hearing her story, the JPJ officers took down her sons’ personal details for it to be keyed in to the MyLesen program, an initiative that aims to help those unable to obtain a license due to financial reasons.
Meanwhile, Selangor JPJ Director Azrin Borhan said the operation saw a total of 7,124 vehicle being inspected.
“A total 827 offenses were found during the operation, including 305 technical violations, followed by 173 cases of not having a valid driving license, 103 cases of expired road tax, and 92 cases of having no insurance coverage.
“Three individuals were also detained after testing positive for drugs,” he added.
