2 M’sian Men Jailed 4 Years For Stealing A Pot And Spatulas In Ipoh

A wire and 2 metal rods were stolen as well.
Stealing is inherently the wrong thing to do and when caught, one has to face the consequences for doing so.

This was what two men faced after they admitted to stealing kitchen utensils from a house in Ipoh, leading them to be imprisoned for four years.

According to NST, the accused were 43-year-old Faizal Muhamat Darus and 41-year-old Mohd Ismail Mohd Abdul Aziz, who were also friends with each other.

Based on the charge sheet, they allegedly broke into a house in Taman Rasa Sayang, Ipoh and stole a wire, a pot, three spatulas, and two steel rods between 10am and 10.30am on Aug 14.

The duo later pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a maximum jail sentence of seven years, a fine, or both if convicted.

The case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Raya Amirah Nabihan Shahrir, while neither Faizal nor Mohd Ismail were represented.

In mitigation, Faizal pleaded for a lighter sentence, saying that he didn’t have a stable income and only earned RM20 daily and had to provide for his wife and three kids.

As for Mohd Ismail, he also made a similar plea and told the court that he earned RM20 to RM30 daily as a lawnmower.

Judge Hilmiah Yusof eventually sentenced both of them to four years in jail, where it would begin on the day of their arrest.
