It was anything but a brief affair for prosecutors who had to spend a whopping two hours to read out a list of bribery charges levied against a former engineer at the Ipoh Sessions Court.
The accused, Saifol Nizam Mat Zin, was slapped with a total of 146 bribery charges, where he was accused of enriching himself with RM183,500.
Charges
According to Harian Metro, Saifol, who previously worked at the Kerian District and Land Office, allegedly accepted bribes from a 36-year-old contractor between January 3, 2022 and October 2023.

The prosecution said Saifol received RM103,800 in 2022 and RM79,700 in 2023, with each transaction ranging between RM500 and RM2,000.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) also highlighted the fact that the cash came from a contractor operating within the district.
Saifol claimed trial to all 146 charges.
Posted bail
Prosecutors initially requested for a bail of RM146,000, with each charge to be calculated at RM1,000.
However, Saifol’s lawyer P Ravee asked for a lower amount, saying his client currently earns RM6,000 monthly.

He also added that Saifol is working at a different department and has to support his three school-going children.
Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi set bail at RM50,000 with one surety and ordered Saifol to report to the Ipoh MACC office on the first Friday of every month until the case is wrapped up.
Saifol posted bail and August 26 has been set for case mention for the submission of documents.
