A devastating hit-and-run incident on the Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (DASH) has left a family shattered, seeking justice for their loved one and grappling with the loss of a promising future.
Nawawi Tarmizi, a 19-year-old culinary enthusiast, tragically lost his life due to severe injuries sustained in the accident. Now, his family is determined to bring the perpetrator to justice and find closure.

Speaking to mStar, the victim’s sister, Siti Nur Syafiah Tarmizi, expressed their collective desire for justice, stating, “ONLY justice is desired for the persecuted family members.”
Syafiah is determined to take the alleged perpetrator to court, believing that they intentionally hit her brother and callously left him on the highway.
Recalling the heartbreaking incident, Syafiah recounted how the family received a phone call bearing tragic news from Nawawi’s number.
The family immediately made their way to Sungai Buloh Hospital, where Nawawi had been taken by ambulance. However, his injuries were so severe that the doctors informed them of his slim chances of survival.
Describing the injuries her brother sustained, Syafiah said, “The right side of his body was severely injured, with broken bones, and his skull was visible as if he had been dragged on the asphalt until his flesh came off.”
These horrifying injuries led the family to suspect foul play and demand answers.
Despite their grief, the family is determined to seek justice for Nawawi. Syafiah pleaded, “I want justice for Awie (family pseudonym), even though it won’t bring him back. We want to know who the perpetrator is. We plead for it. We need closure so that we can find peace.”
Future Chef
Prior to the incident, Nawawi had shown great passion for cooking and had dreams of becoming a chef. However, those aspirations were tragically extinguished with his untimely passing.
Syafiah revealed that her brother was supposed to represent his college, the Food Institute of Malaysia (FIM), in an upcoming cooking competition, with the goal of making their mother proud.

The family has taken their concerns to the authorities, filing a police report and requesting access to CCTV footage from the scene.
