An 18-year-old teenage boy suffered a gruesome death after a lamp post collapsed on top of the van he was in due to a car ramming into the structure yesterday afternoon (May 19).
According to Harian Metro, the accident took place along Jalan Losong Feri near Kampung Losong Panglima Perang in Terengganu.
Decapitated
Speaking to the Malay daily, Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said a Volkswagen Golf GTI driven by a 43-year-old man was travelling from Kuala Terengganu towards Muzium Losong.
Meanwhile, a Nissan Vanette van which the victim, Wah Han Keong, and his dad were in, was making its way from Taman Manir towards Kuala Terengganu.
“Upon arriving at the scene, the Volkswagen Golf GTI is believed to have lost control before skidding.
“It then crashed into a street lamp post in the middle of the road before entering the opposite lane and colliding with the Nissan Vanette,” said Azli.
Due to the crash, the lamp post fell right on top of the van, with Sin Chew Daily reporting that the impact was so great that it caused Wah’s head to be separated from his body, killing him instantly.
Several injured
Azli said Wah’s father suffered minor injuries to his hand, while an eight-year-old that was inside the Volkswagen Golf GTI had minor leg injuries.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
