18yo M’sian Restaurant Worker Scores 9As For SPM, Dedicates Result To Late Dad

"He gave me a lot of motivation and inspiration when he was alive."
A young man who recently scored 9As for SPM has attributed his academic results to his late father, who constantly reminded him the importance of putting effort into his studies.

Speaking to Sinar Harian, 18-year-old Said Syazwan Said Rosnizam said his father passed away two years ago due to an infection, but his death didn’t stop him from studying hard.

Said Syazwan, who currently works at a restaurant named Warung Nasi Kukus Mazenah in Kuantan, shared his studying routine, saying he would spend at least two hours a day for home revision.

At home, I studied less, spending more time playing and being with family. However, when at school, I’m always focused 100% on what the teachers were teaching.

“I would also ask the teachers questions if I didn’t understand anything,” he said.

However, the teen said that he plans to continue working at the restaurant until he receives an offer letter from a local university.

‘My results reminded me of my dad’

Although Said Syazwan had plenty of reasons to celebrate his stellar SPM results, it was nonetheless a bittersweet moment for him as his late father was largely the driving factor behind it.

When I got the results, I immediately thought of my late father. I felt sad because when he was alive, he gave me a lot of motivation and inspiration to keep studying.

“He knew that I used to play a lot, but he advised me to focus while studying and in class. Now, I am proud because I can make them proud,” he said.

When asked about his future plans, Said Syazwan said pursuing Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu was one of his top choices.

‘I made this choice as I’m interested in Mathematics and English. I aspire to become a teacher and I hope this dream will come true.”
