An 11-year-old boy was caught on video driving a car, and the footage quickly went viral on social media.
A video, which was recorded by a bystander, showed the boy being confronted and when asked where his parents were, all he could do was mumble a weak response before driving away.
The clip, which later found its way to the social media platform Reddit, saw netizens expressing horror over how the boy could get behind the wheel behind his parents’ knowledge and called for action to be taken.
Summon issued to the boy’s parentsÂ
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili stated that police were alerted of the video around 3pm yesterday (June 5), where it had taken place at Jalan Kampung Nyabor in Sibu, Sarawak, according to NST.
By 6.50pm, the boy and his parents were located and brought to the Sibu Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division for further investigation.
The father subsequently received a summon under Section 26(1) (b) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for allowing a driver to be behind the wheel without a valid licence.
Zulkipli also revealed that the boy is autistic and has a medical record at the Psychiatry Specialist Clinic of Sibu Hospital.
He urged the public not to speculate on the video, assuring that the police are handling the situation professionally.
