10 M’sians Caught Street Racing In Hatyai Close To 1.30am, Get Slapped With Fines By Thai Police

Shameful.
Street racing often a source of nuisance for residents as the modified cars would emit loud revving noises that cause them to be unable to rest and retire for the night.

A group of Malaysians were recently caught on camera being engaged in street racing along the streets of Hatyai, Thailand, and were subsequently punished by the police for it.

It added the cars were sighted before 1.30am on Saturday (May 17) in front of Greenway Night Market and racing in circles for three times and obstructing one side of Kanchanawanit Road.

Naturally, this didn’t sit well with residents, who complained to the police about the noise pollution caused by the street racing, prompting police from the Kho Hong Station to track down the drivers, along with the help of tourist police and traffic officers.

Eventually, they managed to apprehend the drivers at 11am, who were a group of 10 Malaysians aged 21-25.

Apologised to residents for street racing

In a separate report, Khaosod English reported the group of Malaysians were charged with four offences by police, namely driving in a manner that obstructs traffic, reckless driving, unauthorized vehicle modifications with non-compliant parts, and incomplete required vehicle equipment.

As such, they were issued fines by the police and given an educational session on Thailand’s traffic laws with the help of an interpreter.

The Malaysian drivers also expressed regret for their actions, where they apologised to residents and promised not to do it again before performing the traditional Thai wai gesture to show their remorse.

The group later returned to Malaysia after legal procedures were completed as they had reached the end of their three-day visit to Thailand.

Commander of Kho Hong Police Station, Colonel Apichat Wannako, called upon tour guides and travel operators bringing Malaysian, Indonesian, and Singaporean tourists to Thailand to make sure their clients are fully aware of the country’s traffic laws and follow them closely.
