The father of two daughters named Joni Saragih, or fondly known as ‘Good Father Youtiao’ (好爸油条), passed away last month and his family hasn’t been able to claim his body from the morgue.
The incident has attracted the attention of Kuan Chee Heng, also known as Uncle Kentang, who volunteered to help assist Joni’s funeral.
Upon hearing the news of Joni’s demise, Kuan quickly contacted his wife in Indonesia and learned that she wasn’t emotionally stable enough to come claim the body from Malaysia.
According to the National Registration Department (JPN), Joni’s body cannot be taken out of the morgue as it requires his relatives to be present before claiming it.
Thankfully, Kuan and his team, along with the village’s tribal leader, managed to get the signature of Joni’s wife which authorised Joni’s Malaysian friend, Mohamed Abu Bakar, to handle the funeral.
Kuan said in a Facebook post that once the authorization documents are delivered to the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia, Joni’s body will be flown out instead of ”continuing to lie in the cold morgue”.
The Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia will also work closely with local supermarket monolith KK mart in arranging Joni’s funeral.
At the end of his post, Kuan expressed his gratitude towards the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia and KK mart over their prompt action.
