The general sentiment was that Malaysians are fortunate to enjoy cheaper fuel, with some questioning why similar measures are not implemented in Indonesia.

In an official statement, Anwar confirmed that beginning September 30, Malaysians will enjoy RON95 petrol at only RM1.99 per litre.

The new price will be available by simply using a MyKad at petrol stations or through petrol station apps.

Police and military personnel will get the benefit earlier starting September 27, while recipients of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) can access it from September 28.

A bold move amid global challenges

Anwar said the price cut comes at a time when the global economy is uncertain, making it a significant decision for the country.

He described the move as a gesture of appreciation to Malaysians who have been working hard and standing behind the government’s efforts to grow the economy.
