A Malaysian woman has taken to social media to express her dismay over a nurse’s insensitive remark made during a routine baby check-up at a government health clinic.
According to her social media post, the incident unfolded when her husband brought their 8-month-old baby for a monthly health examination—a responsibility the couple had mutually agreed to share based on their schedules.
Shared responsibility?
What was supposed to be a simple visit took a sour turn when the nurse on duty questioned the baby’s father about the mother’s absence.
“My husband and I agreed that he would take care of all the monthly appointments at KK while I would take over if our child gets hospitalised,” she explained.

Upon learning that she couldn’t attend due to work commitments, the nurse reportedly responded with an offhand remark directed at the child:
Poor thing, looks like your mom doesn’t love you anymore.”
The mother said her husband was left stunned and hurt, and she herself was speechless when he recounted the incident.
“My reaction was like… excuse me? How can you say something like that to a baby?” she shared, still shaken by the interaction.
Netizens call out nurse’s behavior
The incident quickly gained traction online, with many netizens slamming the nurse for being unprofessional and perpetuating outdated gender roles.

‘Back when it was our first child’s monthly check-up at the KK, it was always my husband who went. I only went once, and that was at the end of the year when I had some time off. My husband was more flexible compared to me, so he just went. The nurse had so much to say, ugh.’

‘We’ve been bringing our child to the clinic for 9 months already. From jaundice to growing up, it’s always been the dad who brought the child. Maybe the nurse is just jealous lah.‘
