Every country has its own way of doing things. Some focus on speed, some on convenience, and others somehow manage to turn everyday problems into clever solutions that make outsiders stop and go, “Wait, what?”
Japan is one of those places.
Recently, a TikTok video shared by @melancongkejepun caught the attention of many after showing how futsal shoe rentals work in Japan, and the price alone was enough to surprise viewers.

In the video, a man is seen renting a pair of futsal shoes for just 600 yen, which works out to roughly RM15 to RM20, depending on the exchange rate.
But it wasn’t just the price that got people talking.
A vending machine just for renting futsal shoes
What really stood out was the method of renting the shoes.
Instead of going straight to a counter, the video shows a special vending machine filled with different futsal shoe rental options, each listed at different prices. Payment is made digitally using a credit card via a smartphone, making the entire process quick and hassle free.

Once the payment goes through, the machine prints out a ticket. The renter then brings the ticket to the counter, informs the staff of their shoe size, and collects the shoes.
Simple, efficient, and very on brand for Japan.
The shoes look used but still in good condition
The video also shows the futsal shoes that were rented. While they appear slightly worn on the outside, they are still in decent condition and clearly well maintained.

The stitching looks intact, there are no visible holes, and the shoes still seem perfectly usable for a casual game. It’s the kind of detail that reassures people who might be worried about renting used sports gear.
For tourists or casual players who don’t want to carry an extra pair of shoes, this kind of service makes spontaneous games much easier.
