A young woman in Brazil was tragically killed after she was hurled off from a bridge’s edge while taking part in bungee jump activities.
Footage of the incident horrified many and authorities have sprung into action by arresting those involved for further investigations.
Thrown off with no safety rope
According to a report by The Sun, the victim was 21-year-old Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, who went for bungee jumping in Limeira, Brazil last Saturday (June 13).
As seen from one of the viral videos, it showed two workers holding de Freitas in a Superman position while walking on a plank to the edge of Ponte do Esqueleto.
When they reached the edge, the workers tossed de Freitas off, sending her hurling 40 metres to the ground, resulting in her death.
Not long after de Freitas was thrown off, several voices in the background were heard yelling “the rope, people, the rope” in horror.
As it turned out, a rope which remained coiled and unused on the ground could be seen in the video.
Forgot about rope
Witnesses later told local police that the workers allegedly forgot to attach the safety rope to de Freitas.
Police also said the two men responsible in preparing de Freitas for the jump claimed they could not remember what happened moments before the fall, and what the mistake was.
A total of six individuals have since been arrested at the scene, although another news outlet said the number of arrests was three.
A complaint is also expected to be filed to the Brazilian federal government by the Limeira City Council, reported The Mirror.
This comes after the mayor said the Ponte do Esqueleto has “presented known risks for years and still lacks the necessary protection measures.”
