People shop for many reasons: some do it out of impulse, while others do so to be in tandem with current trends or simply to look fashionable.
For one elderly woman in China, she had a rather bizarre reason behind her online shopping spree worth millions of yuan which has created a buzz among the Internet.
Woman spends RM1.2mil on online shopping
According to Kan Kan News, the 66-year-old woman in Shanghai made headlines after it was revealed that she spent a whopping two million yuan (RM1.2 million) on online shopping.
To top things off, the woman, known as Wang, even rented a second flat just to store her ever growing amount of unopened parcels.

As a result, it has led to to her flat jam-packed with parcels which reached the ceiling and left her with little to no space for sleeping.
Her underground garage fared no better either, where it was equally choked with parcels.
Spent millions to prevent others borrowing money from her
When asked why she spent so much on online shopping, Wang admitted she had an addiction, saying it gave her a sense of excitement.
However, she also revealed another unusual reason for her excessive expenditure.
To prevent friends and family from borrowing money from me, I choose to spend it buying things. When they see piles of stuff in my home, they will feel it’s inappropriate to ask me to lend them money.”

A majority of Wang’s parcels consisted of cosmetics, health supplements, and gold jewellery, most of which were purchased during live-streaming sessions.
Her neighbours aren’t too pleased by her hoarding habit as it had led to foul odours, cockroaches, and flies, causing authorities to order a clean-up to be carried out.
Unfortunately, Wang’s hoarding persists despite multiple interventions.
A residential committee official later revealed that Wang’s daughter resides overseas and her relatives rarely visit her.
