PETALING JAYA – A woman who goes by the Twitter handle @cikgusuraya_ch has drawn the anger of Malaysians after she called her lobster fried rice as a “simple sahur meal”.
For Muslims fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, sahur is a pre-dawn meal taken before abstaining from food and water until sunset.
In the photo’s caption, she wrote about how “simple” her meal was and lamented over having to eat it alone.
Just a simple menu for sahur this morning. Prawn fried rice. Feeling down, having sahur all alone.
Simple saja Menu Sahur pagi ni. Nasi Goreng Udang.

However, the “prawn” turned out to be a giant lobster with melted cheese on top – a meal which comes at a hefty price tag and a luxury for most Malaysian families.

So simple, you say?
@cikgusuraya_ch’s post has since triggered netizens, who criticised her for her lack of discreet in flexing her so-called “simple” meal at a time where Malaysians are suffering from soaring food prices.
“So simple. Nothing much, just a prawn only.”

“The most simple fried rice ever. A lobster. We don’t even dare to speak of a lobster, let alone a prawn.”

“Please keep what you are eating to yourself. Please indulge in the spirit of Ramadan.”
