A woman in China wanted to turn her fortunes around after a string of unfortunate events and moved a traffic mirror’s position at the advice of a feng shui master.
However, it turned out to be disastrous after her act led to a series of road accidents, much to the residents’ chagrin.
Plagued by road accidents
According to South China Morning Post, residents of a Shanghai neighbourhood experienced multiple car crashes which was caused by a shifting traffic mirror at a sharp turn.
They also noticed that every time the mirror was readjusted, it would revert to its previous position and pose a risk to road users.
After two long months of investigations, residents discovered the culprit was a woman who lived in the house opposite the mirror.
Moved mirror for better feng shui
The woman’s husband, Luo, told a TV station that his wife had experienced bad luck and health, and called upon a feng shui master to inspect their home.
The feng shui master then pinned the blame on the traffic mirror, claiming it was the source of her misfortune.
We felt it was a ‘demon-revealing mirror’, which could reveal the true identity of a demon disguised as a human. We are no demons. We are not happy having a demon-revealing mirror pointing at us.”
Luo also defended his wife’s action by saying “no one really used the mirror.”
Old habits die hard?
Residents disagreed with Luo’s argument as they relied on the traffic mirror to avoid accidents when making a sharp turn.
The property management company eventually stepped in and installed a second mirror on the other side of the road, which Luo’s wife was okay with.
However, she later moved both mirrors after she claimed her bad luck returned.
On Jan 21, police approached the couple and warned them that their actions could constitute a criminal offence, and that they could be held responsible for causing traffic accidents.
Meanwhile, the management company cemented the mirrors in place so that it could never be shifted again.
