We all would want to look our best at our friend’s wedding if we’re selected to be the bridesmaid or best man, and one of the common ways to do so is to lose weight before the big day.
Determined to achieve a slim figure in order to look good as a bridesmaid, a woman in China went on a brutal diet and exercise regime which unfortunately backfired on her.
Went on ‘devil weight-loss plan’
According to SCMP, the woman named Xiaoyu was described as an individual who once weighed around 65kg and was 160cm tall.
One day, she was given the honour of being her best friend’s bridesmaid and she was set on losing a significant amount of weight before the wedding.

To reach her goal, Xiaoyu devised her very own “devil weight-loss plan” which saw her completely refraining from staple foods and consuming only small portions of vegetables and chicken breast each day.
On top of that, she also embarked on high-intensity workouts, sometimes running over 10 kilometres a day.
Warning signs
Unsurprisingly, Xiaoyu lost a staggering 15kg in a span of two months, a result which made her extremely pleased with her progress.

However, her body began to show warning signs, with Xiaoyu noticing that she was often exhausted, hungry and extremely thirsty. She also experienced dizziness and heart palpitations.
She then went to the Endocrinology Department at Hangzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and was diagnosed with prediabetes after her fasting blood glucose and two-hour glucose tolerance levels were found to be above normal.
According to a doctor who treated Xiaoyu, he said her weight-loss methods were too “extreme” and it disrupted her body’s ability to produce insulin and severely damaged her metabolism.

The doctor made a treatment plan for Xiaoyu which included having balanced meals and switching to moderate aerobic exercise.
Thankfully, Xiaoyu’s weight stabilised at 52.5kg after three months, showing that losing weight needs to be done in a moderate and healthy manner.
