A woman in Taiwan saw her seven-year marriage crumble before her eyes all because her mother-in-law made an outrageous request.
The encounter was shared on Dcard, where the woman explained in detail the events that led to her leaving her husband for good.
Had difficulty conceiving
In the post, the OP wrote that at the start of her marriage, she had an unplanned pregnancy and aborted the child due to pressures working in the semiconductor industry.
Although she and her husband later tried their best to have a child, they couldn’t as her husband had a low sperm count.
Despite the medical reports, the OP’s mother-in-law blamed it all on the OP and even accused her of not caring for her husband well.
Living hell
During a visit to the fertility clinic, a doctor told the OP that stress could make one unable to conceive.
Things only took a turn for the worse when the OP’s mother-in-law moved in to her home, where she forced the former to quit her job so that she could be a housewife.
On top of that, the OP said she was forced to drink “disgusting” herbal remedies and saw her every move being monitored by her mother-in-law, including her ovulation cycle.
And if that wasn’t humiliating enough, the OP claimed her mother-in-law would force her into having intercourse with her husband at specific times.
She would even stand outside the bedroom door to listen, which led to the OP having to fake intimacy late at night due to exhaustion.
Over the course of three months, the OP felt her love for her husband disappearing each day as sleeping with him was no longer enjoyable.
Husband tries to appease her with Chanel bag
After six months, the OP begged her husband to make his mother leave the house but he refused to budge.
Although he tried to persuade her into letting her mother-in-law stay by buying a Chanel bag worth RM25,000, the OP called it “unnecessary” as she was financially capable of buying one herself.
Although the OP’s husband did succeed in making his mother move out, it did little to quell her anger and she lashed out at the OP.
‘Why not use your brother-in-law’s sperm?’
Days later, the mother-in-law suddenly became kind towards the OP and admitted that infertility wasn’t her fault.
She then followed it up by suggesting to the OP that she conceive using her brother-in-law’s sperm so that the family line could continue.
This shocked the OP deeply as her brother-in-law had a lengthy criminal record for intimidation, theft, and drunk driving. To make things worse, her husband didn’t object and merely shrugged at it.
Unable to endure any longer, the OP packed her belongings and returned to her parents’ home before telling her husband via text message that she wanted a divorce.
Failed mediation
The OP’s father-in-law tried to mend the bridges by arranging a dinner for both families, but it was all ruined by his wife’s constant complaints about the OP.
This irritated the father-in-law, who suddenly stood up and slapped his wife several times while yelling: “You’re still so clueless! You’ve ruined the children’s marriage and you’re still being clueless!”
In the end, it proved to be too late as the OP reiterated that she no longer wanted to stay married despite her father-in-law apologising to her and urging her to think things over.
