If you’ve driven through Malaysia’s more rural highways, you’ve probably seen the “Beware of Wildlife” signs.
For most of us, they’re just a reminder to slow down and stay alert.
But for one family travelling on the Gerik–Jeli East-West Highway, those signs became all too real when they found themselves in a heart-stopping encounter with a group of wild elephants.
It started as an ordinary drive on Saturday, January 18. Then, out of nowhere, a group of elephants appeared on the road, as captured in a TikTok video shared by user @hakimzulkiflii.
At first, the elephants seemed to be crossing peacefully, but things took a nerve-wracking turn when several elephants approached the family’s car.

The massive creatures began rocking the vehicle, their sheer strength causing it to sway visibly, as seen in the dashcam footage.
Fortunately, despite the tense moments, the family escaped unharmed. The incident left no injuries, only a story they’ll likely never forget.
The video has since gone viral, racking up 1.7 million views and sparking countless reactions.
In the comments, some netizens marvelled at the close encounter with such majestic creatures, while others empathised with the family’s fear.
Many also pointed out the growing number of wildlife sightings in human-populated areas and stressed the importance of caution when driving through these regions.
One netizen joked, “Carrie Junior is causing trouble again,” while another commented, “This memory must be expensive… but what a beautiful moment meeting elephants.”
