Shoppers at a grocery store in Pak Chong, Thailand, had the shock of their lives when an unexpected customer showed up.
In a viral clip, a wild elephant was caught strolling into the store on June 3 around 3pm, casually rummaging through the shelves like it was on a regular grocery run.
‘Customer’ of the day: Plai Biang Lek
The elephant, a 25-year-old male known as Plai Biang Lek, had apparently wandered out from the nearby Khao Yai National Park and made a straight beeline for the snacks.
It didn’t take long for him to make himself comfortable, using his trunk to scan the store’s selection before settling on sweet rice and a pack of chicken eggs.
The scene quickly turned chaotic as the shop owner, 75-year-old Khamploy Gakaew, abandoned her cashier counter and ran outside to call for help.
No harm done, just a little mess
Thankfully, Plai Biang Lek didn’t hurt anyone. He hung around for about 10 minutes, left a bit of a mess, and was eventually escorted out by park rangers.
The store only suffered minor damage and no one was injured.
Khamploy told local media this was the first time an elephant had ever entered her shop, though she has seen wild elephants roam nearby before. “But I never thought one would come shopping,” she said.
