A woman has sparked debate online after revealing that she was scolded by her husband for allegedly being “untrustworthy” when she used money that had been set aside to buy their child a bicycle to instead purchase food for the family to break fast.
According to mStar, the woman explained that the money had been saved on her husband’s instructions to buy a bicycle for their eldest child.
‘I didn’t buy things for myself’
However, when it came time to prepare food for iftar, she said there was not enough money for groceries.
My husband got angry because I used the money he asked me to save for our child’s bicycle. I didn’t use it to buy things for myself, but for food to break fast,” she wrote.
She shared that she had asked her husband for money earlier to buy groceries, but he told her to wait until he received his salary and to make do with whatever food was available at home.
She felt it was unfair that the priority was placed on buying a bicycle instead of ensuring there was sufficient food for the family.
“I was very sad when he said I was not trustworthy in keeping the money. Was it wrong for me to use it to buy food? I was disappointed that he accused me like that,” she added.
Eldest child objected
The woman also revealed that she had informed her eldest child before using the savings.
She admitted that she had been unhappy with the decision to save for the bicycle, and that she asked her daughter for permission to use the money to buy groceries instead.
I told her, ‘Mama wants to use the money Daddy gave for your bicycle to buy food for our home first, is that okay?’”
According to her, the child refused, saying the money was specifically meant for the bicycle. When the husband returned home from work, the child reportedly told him that the mother had used the money to buy groceries.
This eventually led to an argument between the couple.
