Driving is tough sometimes—missing a sign, taking the wrong turn, or finding yourself on the wrong side of a one-way street happens to the best of us.
But here’s the thing: when you’re in the wrong, a little humility can go a long way. Or, in this case, reverse a long way. Unfortunately, not everyone got the memo.
M’sian driver drives in wrong direction along one-way street in Gombak
This was the case recently in Gombak, where a red Proton Persona driver entered a one-way street in the wrong direction.
What could have been a minor error turned into a viral social media moment when the driver and passenger added fuel to the fire with a questionable remark about “common sense.”

It all started innocently enough. A Proton Persona driver accidentally (or maybe not?) entered a one-way street the wrong way.

Mistakes happen, right? Except instead of saying, “Oh, my bad!” and backing up, this driver decided to double down.
Caught on a dashcam, the Persona eased forward, pressuring the car coming in the correct direction to move aside.
When the dashcam owner finally gave in and pulled over, they tried to reason with the driver, pointing out the glaringly obvious: “This is a one-way street.”
Now, any reasonable person would say, “Oh, sorry!” Not this driver.
Instead, she hit them with a dismissive, “You can move, right?”
The ‘common sense’ lecture
Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, a passenger in the Proton Persona decided to chime in with a gem of wisdom: “But at least give way, ‘common sense.’”

Excuse us while we pick our jaws off the floor.
The dashcam owner, understandably annoyed, clapped back, pointing out that the only “common sense” missing here was from the driver herself.
The video, timestamped at 2.39pm on December 31, 2024, quickly made its rounds on social media. The absurdity of the exchange left many viewers both amused and outraged.
Comments ranged from “Do they even know what common sense means?” to “The only common sense here is reversing and apologising.”

While everyone makes mistakes, how we handle them matters.
This incident might’ve sparked laughs and frustration, but it’s also a reminder for all road users: true “common sense” isn’t about blaming others or dodging responsibility. It’s about doing what’s right—even if it means swallowing your pride and hitting the reverse gear.
