Edward Wong, who previously went viral for scoring a perfect 4.0 CGPA in STPM but failing to secure a place at Universiti Malaya (UM), is once again the talk of the town after a video showed him at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
Recently, a TikTok clip uploaded by @DesasiswaRestu showed Edward inside a hall at USM, which quickly caught the attention of netizens.
The video didn’t stay up for long and was later deleted, which only added to the mystery and speculation surrounding his next academic move.
Video at USM sparks buzz
This development came as a surprise to many because Edward had previously declared UM as his “dream destination.”

For him, studying at UM wasn’t just an academic goal, it was also personal, as his sister had graduated from the prestigious university too.
Because of this, seeing Edward at USM left many netizens divided. Some took the opportunity to poke fun at him, writing comments such as:
“He said he wanted UM so badly, but in the end chose USM too.”
“Next time if he can’t get a job, he’ll hold another press conference.”

At the same time, other voices on social media defended him, pointing out that the real issue wasn’t Edward’s decision but how the situation was politicised in the first place.
One user noted, ‘Honestly, I don’t blame the boy 100%. He was just excited and fresh out of school. The minister who quickly organised the press conference should take more responsibility.’

How Edward became a household name
To understand why this new video has reignited debate, it’s worth recalling Edward’s earlier story.

He first made headlines nationwide when he revealed that despite his stellar academic and co-curricular record, six universities rejected his application to study accounting.
The case drew massive public sympathy and eventually attracted the attention of MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who stepped in to defend Edward during a press conference.
Wee even questioned the fairness of the university selection process, pointing out that students with lower CGPAs were admitted while Edward was left out.
Now, with Edward spotted at USM, Malaysians are once again speculating about his future. Has he finally accepted his place at the university, or is he still hoping for another chance at UM?
