We Tried The 1st Ever Wakayama Kumano Beef in M’sia. Here’s What We Think

Until recently, Malaysians had to travel abroad to experience the crème de la crème of Wagyu beef.

But now, Mittoappu at TRX Exchange has made history as the first restaurant in Malaysia to serve Wakayama Kumano Beef, an A5-grade Wagyu with an impressive MBS score of 12.

An elegant and cozy dining ambiance

Walking into Mittoappu, I was immediately struck by its elegant yet cozy ambiance.

The dining area exudes sophistication with warm lighting, modern décor, and an intimate setup that feels both exclusive and welcoming.

The highlight, however, is the open-kitchen concept. Each table features a grilling station where the chef performs culinary magic right in front of you.

A culinary showpiece: A5 Wagyu Hamburg

One of the signature dishes at Mittoappu was the A5 Wagyu Hamburg. While I’ve had Wagyu in the past, I’d never tried it in this form and it was an experience unlike any other.

The patty was cooked to perfection with a slightly crispy exterior and a beautifully rare center.

Every bite was an explosion of flavor — juicy, tender, and rich thanks to the high fat content that Wagyu is famous for.

We opted for the 160g medium-sized portion, which was just right when paired with a serving of rice. The balance between the richness of the meat and the neutral palate of the rice created a harmonious dining experience.

Next up was the A5 Wakayama Kumano striploin, and it was nothing short of divine. This cut is the epitome of what makes Wagyu so special.

Speaking of sauces and condiments, Mittoappu provides a wide selection, including rock salt, wasabi, sesame sauce, teriyaki sauce, lemon sauce, and spicy sauce. There’s even a raw egg for those who enjoy the creaminess it adds.

While I enjoyed experimenting all the options, the simplicity of Wagyu paired with just a touch of rock salt truly stood out. For me, the sesame and lemon sauces were also delightful complements.

Overall, dining at Mittoappu is a luxurious experience that’s perfect for anyone looking to indulge in top-tier ingredients and exceptional flavors.

While it might lean on the pricier side, it’s definitely worth every ringgit for what you get.

From the moment you step in, the ambiance, the live cooking performance, and the melt-in-your-mouth Wakayama Kumano Beef make it clear why Wagyu has all the hype.
