If you’ve walked past The Exchange TRX recently, you’ve probably seen it.
A long queue, people peeking over the counter, and everyone holding a cup of what looks like regular gelato… except it’s not.
That’s TOFU G, Malaysia’s first tofu-based gelato spot that’s been going viral after making waves in Singapore.

Since we were already at TRX, we decided to join the crowd and see if it’s actually worth the hype.
Freshly churned on-site
When we got there, the queue was already forming, but one thing that stood out was how interactive the whole experience felt.
Right beside the counter, you can see the gelato being freshly churned on-site, which honestly makes the wait a bit more exciting.

Even better, they let you sample flavours before deciding, which quickly turned into us trying way more than we planned.
After going back and forth and almost ordering everything, we narrowed it down to six flavours to properly review.
Smooth, creamy, and surprisingly light
Before we even get into the ranking, one thing we all agreed on, every flavour had an incredibly smooth and silky texture.
Despite being tofu-based, there was no heavy or overpowering taste. Instead, it felt lighter, cleaner, and less jelak than your usual ice cream.
It’s the kind of dessert you can finish without feeling guilty, especially since most options are plant-based.

The ranking
We ordered 6 flavours in the end, and this is how we rank them:
6th – Tangerine Gelato

This was a Chinese New Year seasonal flavour, and while it had a light fruity aroma with a slight tang, we were expecting something more citrusy and punchy.
It’s refreshing, but compared to the rest, it felt a bit too subtle to stand out.
5th – Pomegranate Gelato

This one leans more towards the sour side, giving it a lively and refreshing taste.
You do get a slight creamy note at the end, but overall, it’s quite tart, so it really depends on whether you enjoy that kind of flavour profile.
4th – Pistachio Gelato

This one contains milk, and you can definitely taste it.
The creaminess is more pronounced, but it still carries a nice nutty pistachio aroma that makes it quite fragrant.
It’s also good that it was topped with bits and pieces of pistachio, adding a crunch to it.
3rd – Black Sesame Gelato

This felt like a flavour that was meant to work. Black sesame and soy-based desserts have always been a solid pairing, and this one proves why.
The sesame flavour is rich and nutty, blending really well with the tofu base to create something that’s both bold and comforting.
2nd – Rich Chocolate Gelato

This one surprised us the most. It’s not even their main highlight, but it ended up being one of the best.
The chocolate leans towards a dark profile, with a really nice balance between bitterness and sweetness. It’s rich, aromatic, and honestly quite addictive.
1st – High-Protein Tofu Gelato
No surprises here. This is their signature for a reason.

It’s purely tofu-based, but somehow avoids that typical “beany” taste you might expect.
Instead, what you get is a smooth, creamy, almost milky richness that feels super indulgent without actually being heavy. It’s simple, but done so well that it easily takes the top spot.
So… is it worth queueing for?
We’d say yes, especially if you’re looking to try something different from your usual dessert spots.
What makes TOFU G stand out isn’t just the novelty of tofu-based gelato, but how well they execute it. It doesn’t feel like a “healthy alternative” that sacrifices taste, it actually holds up on its own.
Plus, with options that are vegan-friendly, dairy-free, and even high-protein, it’s one of those rare treats where you can indulge a little without overthinking it.
Just maybe avoid peak hours… unless you’re ready to queue.
