Last Friday (Aug 23), a woman from India plunged 8m down a sinkhole at Masjid India after the ground underneath her suddenly gave way and collapsed.
Since her disappearance, the authorities have been working round the clock in a rush against time to locate her underneath the rubble. Unfortunately, they have yet to find any positive results thus far.
‘Let us see her for the last time’, family pleads
After hearing the news of the unfortunate incident, family members of Vijaya Lakshmi rushed to the scene and hoped against all odds that she would be found soon.
However, in light of the current situation, they have since resigned to fate and have seemingly prepared themselves to accept the fact that Vijaya may never be found.
According to Arvend Appiasamy, the Special Officer for Indian Affairs to the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, he told reporters that Vijaya’s family have only one request — that is to see her face for the last time.
It’s heart wrenching. They are ready for the worst-case scenario and are hoping that the authorities can find the victim as soon as possible.
“Meanwhile, their visa have been extended for another month starting Monday (Aug 26), he said.
Search operation hampered by challenges
As the authorities enter the fifth day of the rescue operation, they are now facing a new set of challenges in the form of toxic and flammable sewer gas accumulated in a 15m-high sewage tank at the Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) plant in Pantai Dalam, reported Scoop.
In order to prevent any unwanted incidents from happening, the search-and-rescue team members will be using hands and specialised tools in their search for Vijaya.
