For the past few days, hundreds of Malaysians flocked to Sports Toto outlets across the country in hopes of buying a lottery ticket that would win them the largest jackpot in Malaysian history.
While excitement ran high, so did the tensions, as seen in a clip that has circulated wildly on social media.
Violent fight breaks out at Toto outlet due to alleged queue-cutting
In the now-viral 19-second clip, it showed a man clad in a white t-shirt being ganged up and beaten by three other men at a Sports Toto outlet.
As the trio rained down punches on the man, he tried to shield his face from the relentless assault by covering his face with his arms while a woman, believed to be his wife, screams at them to stop while protecting the man with her own body.
At one point of the fight, the man is seen warning his aggressors to not lay a finger on his wife, yelling, “Do not touch my wife!” in Mandarin while pointing menacingly at them.
No one stepped in to break up the fight but merely watched or whipped out their phones to film the altercation, while an elderly lady at the counter is seen looking on with a wry smile on her face, as though it was just another day at the Toto outlet.
According to netizens who claimed to be at the scene, the fight was sparked when the man got frustrated while waiting in line and decided to cut the queue, angering other patrons who were waiting for their turn.
However, WeirdKaya cannot independently verify whether this was truly the reason that caused the fight to take place.
‘Was it worth it, though?’
It didn’t take long for the clip to go viral on social media and netizens were left wondering whether was it even worth getting into a fight over buying lottery tickets.
‘It’s so embarrassing to fight at a Toto outlet. Just go get a job if you want to be rich. That’s the right way, not to buy Toto numbers.’
‘Chinese New Year is coming soon lah…if you land yourself in the hospital, you can’t celebrate it at all haiyo.’
One joked that the man had bought himself a queue number to the nearest clinic instead of the winning lottery ticket.
Meanwhile, some expressed sympathy for the man’s wife over being caught in the crossfire.
