Dashcam footage showing a Proton Wira blatantly blocking a firetruck’s path despite other cars making way for it has gone viral on the subreddit r/malaysia. The incident is believed to have occurred in Johor.
The 1-minute video started with the firetruck reaching a junction with multiple cars stopping at a red light in front of it.
As the firetruck blared its siren, all the cars began pulling over frantically to let it pass through – except for the Wira driver who wanted a quick way out.
Instead of driving over to the side, the Wira squeezed into a tight gap between it and the firetruck, costing precious minutes to tick away.
It continued to obstruct the firetruck all the way to a busy junction, with cars coming from all directions.
Suddenly, the driver pretended to be the firetruck’s escort by sticking his hand out of the window and honking loudly to alert passing cars to give way. Wah, like that also can ah?
Amazingly, both the Wira and the firetruck managed to weave their way through the bustling traffic. However, the Wira persisted in blocking the firetruck until the end of the video. As they say, perhaps some habits do die hard.
Some Redditors were visibly annoyed by the driver’s inconsiderate and reckless attitude.
â–¼ One said he would have rammed into the Wira to teach the driver a lesson.
â–¼ Another joked that maybe the driver’s house was ablaze too.
â–¼ Others wondered if the driver would be punished for his actions.
It’s an offense to obstruct emergency vehicles and if you don’t want to be issued a summon, be a responsible driver on the road and always give way to first responders as someone’s life depends on their swiftness and prompt action.
