BENTONG – A 16-year-old girl addicted to an online game attempted to jump off the Bukit Tinggi highway flyover after her father confiscated her mobile phone. Luckily, a rescue team comprised of policemen and firefighters saved her before it was too late. She was sent to the hospital for treatment and later found to be suffering from depression.
According to Harian Metro, the incident happened yesterday at KM46 of the Karak-KL Highway. Bentong County Police chief, superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, said they received a distress call at 2.12 pm and rushed to the scene along with Bukit Tinggi Police Station chief Sergeant Major Maznan Omar.
Upon arriving, they saw the girl sitting at the edge of the flyover while the rescue team tried their best to calm her down.
They then instructed the firefighters to set up a safety net underneath the flyover if the girl leaps off the ledge.
While the rescue continued coaxing the girl, Maznan ran forward and pulled her from behind before her feet left the flyover.
In a press statement, Zaiham said that the victim was stressed out as her father reprimanded her for her mobile game addiction and subsequently confiscated her mobile phone.
He also urged parents to pay close attention to their children’s activities and emotional state.
