Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis, Kedah, and Pahang have already taken initiative to restrict vape sales.
Various ministries already in talks
According to NST, the federal government has announced plans to fully ban electronic cigarettes and vape products in Malaysia, starting with open-system devices before gradually extending to all types.
However, Dr Dzulkefly did not specify an exact timeline for when the complete ban will take effect.

According to the minister, the Health Ministry has already held detailed discussions with several key ministries and agencies to make sure the ban is feasible.
These include the Finance Ministry, Customs Department, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, Home Ministry (via the police), and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
“The findings and proposed implementation plan for the ban will be presented to the Cabinet to obtain policy approval, which will then serve as the foundation for the full ban on electronic cigarettes or vape products in the country,” he said in a written reply in the Dewan Negara at a press conference yesterday.
Why the ban?
The move comes as part of the government’s efforts to curb the misuse of vape and protect public health.

Dr Dzulkefly explained that this aligns with the government’s long-term strategy to shield Malaysians from diseases linked to tobacco and nicotine use.
States already taking action
Interestingly, six states have already taken the initiative to restrict vape sales.
Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis, Kedah, and Pahang have decided not to issue or renew vape sales licenses through their local authorities.
The Health Minister said the federal ban will strengthen these efforts, creating a consistent nationwide approach.
“This is a proactive approach aligned with the goals of national public health,” Dr Dzulkefly said, stressing that the government’s priority is the well-being of Malaysians over the long run.
