UUM Ranked #1 Public University In M’sia

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has been recognised as the 71st best university in the world under 50 years old, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2024.

This accolade highlights UUM’s significant leap from its previous position at 95th last year, marking a rise of 24 places, reported Kosmo!.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, attributed this remarkable achievement to the relentless efforts and dedication of the university community.

“I would like to thank all members of the university who have worked tirelessly to ensure UUM is always recognised nationally and internationally. It is not easy, as the university has to compete with other prestigious universities to be in this top 100 position,” he said.

This recognition not only positions UUM as the best ‘young’ university in Malaysia but also establishes it as the number one public university in the country.

In a statement, Prof Dr. Mohd Foad elaborated on the factors contributing to UUM’s success, emphasising that the university, now entering its 40th year, continues to excel on the international stage, particularly in the fields of management, business, accounting, and social sciences.

UUM’s ranking jumped 24 places from the previous year

“The rise of UUM by 24 places to the 71st best in the world was driven by the quality of research indicators, in addition to maintaining high scores in the teaching and research environment categories,” he added.

He further explained that this stellar performance has significantly boosted UUM’s reputation, aligning it with globally renowned universities that have previously set various records.

The Young University Rankings 2024 utiliSed 17 indicators across five categories for this recognition.

These categories include

  • Teaching (29.5%),
  • Research quality (30%),
  • Research environment (29%),
  • International outlook (7.5%),
  • Industry income (4%).

The Young University Rankings 2024, released annually, assessed over 673 universities worldwide for this year’s recognition, highlighting the competitive nature of this prestigious ranking.
