If you travel in and out of Malaysia whether by car, motorcycle, bus, or plane, things are changing at immigration, and MyNIISe is the reason why.
Simply put, MyNIISe is Malaysia’s new all-in-one immigration app, and it’s here to replace older systems like MyBorderPass and myIMMs.
Instead of juggling different platforms for different immigration matters, MyNIISe brings almost everything together in one single app, from border clearance to visa applications.
What exactly is MyNIISe?

MyNIISe (National Integrated Immigration System) is a major digital upgrade by the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
Instead of using different systems for:
- border clearance
- QR scanning
- MDAC submission
- visa or pass applications
MyNIISe integrates all of these into a single platform.
Behind the scenes, the system uses AI and is linked to other government databases like the National Registration Department (JPN) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). For travellers, this means faster verification and fewer delays at checkpoints.
What’s the biggest change compared to MyBorderPass?

Here’s the key difference most people care about:
MyBorderPass (Old)
- Only for Malaysian citizens
- Mainly used at land borders
- Each person needed to scan their own QR code
- Limited to individual travel
- Separate from other immigration services
MyNIISe (New)
- Can be used by Malaysians and travellers from 63 other countries
- Works for cars, motorcycles, buses, and lorries
- Supports individual and group travel
- One QR code can be generated for a group
- Used at land borders, airports, and selected eGate lanes
- Includes MDAC, visa matters, and immigration records
- Designed to replace all QR-based immigration systems
Is MyBorderPass still usable?
Yes but only for now.
- MyNIISe is currently in a trial period
- Trial runs until 28 February 2026
- During this period, MyBorderPass can still be used
- After the trial ends, MyNIISe will replace all existing QR immigration systems, including MyBorderPass
So if you haven’t installed MyNIISe yet, you’re not late but you will need it eventually.
What can you do inside the MyNIISe app?
This is where MyNIISe really stands out.
Using one app, you can:
- Exit and enter Malaysia using a QR code
- Travel individually or as a group under one QR
- Apply for visas and visit passes
- Apply for or renew temporary work visit passes
- Renew passports
- Check your entry and exit movement records
- Fill in the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)
Around 90% of immigration-related services are now digital, which means fewer forms and fewer trips to counters.
How do you register for MyNIISe?

You can register using whichever method is easiest for you.

Option 2: MyKad

How does MyNIISe work at immigration checkpoints?

Before you reach immigration, your QR code must be valid.
Before you travel

- Open MyNIISe
- Tap MyGate QR
- Check whether the QR code is active
- Generate a new QR code if needed
At the immigration counter

- Hold your phone up to the QR scanner
- Wait for the beep
- Officer confirms your details
- You proceed
Important reminder:
Even with QR clearance, you must still carry your physical passport. The QR code does not replace it.
Can you check your travel history?

Yes and this is one feature many people overlook.
You can check your entry and exit records directly in the app:
- Open MyNIISe
- Go to Personal Details
- Tap Movement Information
- Review your travel history
This is useful if you need to verify past movements or spot errors early.
Using MyNIISe at motorcycle eGates

For motorcycle lane users:
- Lift your visor and scan your face
- If facial recognition fails, scan your MyNIISe QR code
- If it still fails, use the intercom to call an officer

MDAC Is now built into MyNIISe
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) no longer needs to be filled in on a separate website.
Inside MyNIISe, you can:
- Submit MDACs for individuals or groups
- Save traveller details for future trips
- Access the MDAC QR code even without internet connection
Who must submit MDAC?
All foreign travellers within 3 days before arrival, except:
- Singapore citizens
- Malaysian Permanent Residents
- Diplomatic and official passport holders
- Thailand Border Pass or Indonesia Cross-Border Pass holders
- Brunei GCI holders
So what should you do now?
If you:
- travel often
- use land borders
- cross in groups or with family
- rely on QR clearance
then MyNIISe is something you’ll eventually have to use anyway.
During the trial period, both systems coexist. But once that ends, MyNIISe becomes the main system.
