Malaysia and Singapore, like siblings, have constantly vied with each other to see who’s the best when it comes to having the best tourist spots and of course, the best food.
An American TikToker recently praised Malaysia for its variety of tourist spots as compared to Singapore, even going as far as to dissuade others from paying the city-island a visit.
US TikToker says M’sia is a better place to visit than SG
In a 3-minute long video posted by @zakattackcalii on TikTok, the 18-year-old American who had moved from the US to live in Thailand shared which was the best and worst Southeast Asian country he had visited over the past five months.
According to him, Singapore was ranked at dead last (meaning the worst) as there was virtually nothing for him to do during his visit.
I do not recommend it. The reason is there was, like, nothing to do in Singapore besides walk around and see a few things, but Singapore is just so small.
“The people in Singapore were pretty nice, but I had a few experiences that were definitely not as nice. When I went up to the big, huge tower, it’s called Marina Bay Sands or whatever, the waiters and waitresses were just super rude. Like, they were just not kind at all,” he claimed.
He also said that Singapore was akin to Disneyland, where it was a place “that seemed perfect” but had “little culture”.
The TikToker then went on to describe his travel experience in Malaysia, where he had nothing but praise for it.
“If you are someone who wants to go to Singapore, go to Malaysia. It is very similar but like, Malaysia is 10 times better, with like, culture, better food, better buildings.”
He added that another reason he loved Malaysia was thanks to the fact that it was a “walkable city” and felt that the country was underrated despite being more “well put together” than Thailand.
Mixed reactions
In the comment section, netizens were split over the TikToker’s ranking of the countries he visited and expressed their thoughts over it.
Some, who claimed to be Singaporeans, seemed to agree with his rather scathing review of the city-island.
On the other hand, some were doubtful over the TikToker’s ranking, saying that he most likely based it on the level of affordability.
