US Netizens Call Windowed Aerobridges ‘New & Special’, Leaves M’sians Who’ve Seen It For Years Baffled

“I always thought most, if not all, airports had this.”
A post by a foreign netizen praising a “new and novel” airport feature in the United States has sparked amusement and mild disbelief among Malaysians, who pointed out that it has existed in their countries for decades.

The discussion began after an X post was reshared on Threads, where it quickly sparked debate and discussion.

The post featured photos of the newly revamped Kansas City International Airport and highlighted that it was the first airport in the United States to have windows along all its aerobridges.

According to the post, the glass-lined walkways made boarding planes feel “modestly more dignified.”

While the comment was meant as praise, it quickly drew reactions from users across Asia who found the excitement confusing.

‘This is normal for us’

Netizens from Asian countries such as the Philippines and Malaysia chimed in to say that glass aerobridges have long been standard across Asian airports.

One commenter from the Philippines said even Manila’s airport, often criticised as one of the worst in the region, has had windowed walkways for years.

Others joked that Asia must be living in the future if something so basic was only now being celebrated elsewhere.

Some comments took a sharper tone, poking fun at how a global superpower could lag behind in everyday infrastructure while still stereotyping Asian countries as “backward.”

“World’s largest economy, most powerful military… but no windows on jet bridges?” one netizen quipped. “And they still think some of us live in caves and trees,” another added sarcastically.

Not the first time M’sia impressed Americans

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Malaysia has surprised American audiences online.

In one viral moment, a short clip showing US President Donald Trump’s motorcade travelling along the Maju Expressway (MEX) in Kuala Lumpur drew praise from American netizens, many of whom were impressed by how clean and well-maintained the highway looked.

Comments like “Cleaner than US roads” soon flooded social media, leaving Malaysians both amused and slightly stunned by the reactions.

On a separate occasion, Trump also publicly praised the “very small and really cute” cars he saw during a visit to Asia, including Malaysia.

His remarks went viral after he expressed amazement that such ultra-compact vehicles were not even allowed to be produced in the US.
