‘Unacceptable!’ – KLIA2 Suffers Major Power Outage During Transport Minister’s Visit

Loke expressed his anger at the incident, describing it as “completely unacceptable.”
Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2) was hit by a sudden power outage today, leaving the entire terminal in darkness for around 20 minutes.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who was attending the launch of the TTKLIA platform for buses, taxis, and public transport at the terminal, personally experienced the blackout.

Loke calls outage ‘unacceptable’

According to Sin Chew Daily, the power failure began at about 2.15 pm and caused all services at KLIA2 to halt temporarily.

He instructed airport authorities to submit a detailed report within 24 hours, stressing that there should be no excuses or shifting of responsibility.

This is not the first time something like this has happened. In public transport, any technical issue lasting more than 15 minutes is considered a major incident.

“This cannot happen, especially at KLIA2,” he reportedly said.

He also noted that he always arrives 15 minutes early for events and, since he was present during the incident, it was impossible to “cover up and act as if nothing had happened.”

Plans to link KLIA and KLIA2

Later, during a press conference after chairing the National Aviation Consultative Council (NACC) meeting, Loke announced that the ministry and the council had agreed to speed up efforts to improve connectivity between KLIA and KLIA2.

The plan will not involve building new major infrastructure, but instead focus on enhancing passenger and baggage connections.

Currently, both terminals operate almost like separate airports, requiring passengers to leave one terminal and re-enter another.

Loke said this is inconvenient for travelers.

He explained that although buses are already on standby between the main terminal and the satellite building, the service is not fully utilized.

Our plan is to create an airside connection so passengers transferring between KLIA and KLIA2 can use a shuttle bus without needing to collect baggage or go through immigration,” he said, adding that the ministry aims to complete this by next year.
