Over the past week, Malaysians were left horrified and angered by news of several stray cats being brutally mutilated and killed within the Universiti Malaya (UM) campus.
To date, a total of six cats were found horribly disfigured, where most of them had their stomachs slashed open and emptied of their intestines or had their limbs cut off.

UM lecturers, students questioned by police over cat deaths
Following the huge public outcry over the killings, police have since moved into action in conducting their own investigations.
According to Kuala Lumpur City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, he said a total of seven individuals have been called by police to have their statements recorded.
So far, a total of seven people, consisting of UM lecturers and students as well as one animal rights activist, have had their statements recorded.
“The statement of the animal rights activist has been recorded, and the carcass of a cat found on Dec 20 was handed over to the police by the activist.

“The cat carcass was sent to the Veterinary Laboratory for examination and post-mortem on Dec 27,” he said as quoted by NST.
