If you’ve driven in Malaysia long enough, you’d probably agree that Malaysian drivers tend to be hotheaded and reckless while on the road.
Given this fact, many were shocked by a British tourist’s comments about local drivers, where he commended them for being “respectful”.
UK tourist praises M’sian drivers for being ‘respectful’
In a Threads post by @mark_dearlove, the tourist wrote that he had rented a car during his visit to Malaysia and shared some of the positive experiences he had.
According to him, he said that the price to rent a car was relatively low and was impressed by how good the road conditions were.

However, he did warn others to be careful of hazards that may appear in the middle of the road such as macaques, dogs, monitor lizards, and (unsurprisingly) motorbikes.
On top of that, he also said that fuel prices were “ridiculously cheap by UK standards (40p/L vs £1.40/L)” and encouraged those looking to have a trip with little constrictions and full of new places to explore to drop by Malaysia.
However, his biggest compliment was for Malaysian drivers, where he called them “pretty respectful compared to many other places I have been.”
In the comment section, he added that he had driven in many countries, saying that driving in Malaysia “was very easy” compared to major cities like Manhattan.

‘Are you sure?’
Needless to say, Malaysians were taken aback by the amount of praise the UK tourist lavished on local drivers and the road conditions and couldn’t quite believe their ears (or eyes in this case).
‘I’m okay with the rest but respectful drivers? Stretching it too far but thank you though…’

‘Malaysian drivers are respectful? Now that’s new! Road rage is actually pretty common here, but always nice to have a fresh perspective from foreigners.’

‘Can’t believe we got complimented with our roads…cause we complain about it every single day.’
