UK Etiquette Coach Uses Fork To Eat Rice, Gets Roasted In The Comments

Etiquette so refined, even the rice is confused.
As Asians, we love our rice and the rich culture surrounding it. While we’re not trying to gatekeep on how rice should be eaten, but seeing such an odd and inefficient method really strikes a nerve.

Recently, a British etiquette coach sparked backlash after uploading a video on Instagram demonstrating what he claimed to be the “proper British way” of eating rice.

Rice with a reversed fork?

In the video, the coach explained that British etiquette dictates eating rice with a fork and knife — but not just any way.

He insisted that the correct way was to use the fork upside down, with the curved side facing downward. He then likened it to how one would eat peas: pushing the rice onto the back of the fork using the knife before bringing it to the mouth.

This is how Britain eats rice. I’m sure this will make sense to someone,” he wrote in the caption.

Southeast Asians not having it

The video didn’t sit well with many users across Southeast Asia and other rice-loving nations.

Some pointed out that the use of a spoon, which is far more functional for eating rice than a reversed fork, was conveniently ignored.
