United States President Donald Trump is still talking about Malaysia days after wrapping up his visit to Kuala Lumpur for the 47th ASEAN Summit on 27 October 2025.
While delivering a speech in South Korea, Trump unexpectedly brought up Malaysia again, praising the country’s role in mediating the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords and describing the facility used for the negotiations as “beautiful”.
He also called Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim a “great guy” and said Malaysia was “fantastic” in helping end a long running conflict.

During his speech, Trump recounted how the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords were secured in just two days with Malaysia acting as a mediator between Cambodia and Thailand.
He said the talks were moved to a “beautiful facility in Malaysia” because the situation at the border had become “too hot” with “bullets flying all over the place”.
Malaysia was like a mediator. We used the beautiful facility in Malaysia (for the peace accord). And Malaysia was fantastic. They helped implement it. The Prime Minister was great, great guy. Just left him,” he told the crowd.
Trump added that both leaders “came in like best friends” and credited Malaysia for helping seal a peace deal he claimed “saved probably millions of lives”.

Trump’s remarks come shortly after Anwar Ibrahim shared a light hearted moment from their encounter during the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
In a now viral tale, Anwar revealed that Trump had invited him to join a ride in The Beast, the official presidential limousine used for high security transport.
