“Ya Allah, bodoh betul kau!” (Oh God, you’re really stupid!)
That was the shocking response a tourist received after asking for a refund on faulty AirPods from local vendors.
The AirPods only worked on one side
The incident came to light after a TikTok video went viral, showing the tourist confronting two unlicensed vendors on a bridge. He claimed that the AirPods he had bought only worked on one side.

Although he admitted he knew the item was fake, the tourist wanted to test if the sellers would take responsibility and handle the situation fairly.
Instead, the male vendor casually inspected the earphones and brushed off the issue, claiming they simply needed to be “fully charged” before they could work properly.
This didn’t sit well with the tourist, who shot back before asking for a refund:
It shouldn’t take three hours to charge.”
‘Cannot return’
However, what could have been a straightforward exchange quickly turned sour. The female vendor flatly refused his request, stressing that refunds were not allowed, not even if the product was faulty.

To make matters worse, she sarcastically suggested that if the tourist wanted working earphones, he should just buy another unit.
At this point, the back-and-forth started to heat up. As the tourist insisted on his refund, the vendor’s patience snapped, and she hurled the now-viral insult:
Ya Allah, bodoh betul kau!” (Oh God, you’re really stupid!)
Ironically, after insulting him, she finally returned the money while shooing him away.
Netizens outraged
The rude exchange sparked immediate outrage online. For many Malaysians, it wasn’t just about a pair of fake AirPods, it was about how such behaviour could reflect on the country’s image.
One netizen wrote: ‘One video like this can undo years of tourism promotion. Shameful.’
Another added: ‘Tourists expect warm hospitality, not insults.’
Others turned their anger toward the sellers’ dishonesty, calling out the practice of scamming people with counterfeit goods.
